This course was originally know as the Ria Formosa Course. It has four great long par-5 holes that need strong fairway play combined with accuracy to succeed in maintaining a low score. When playing the par-3 holes it is important to bear in wind the sometimes strong wind. The 14th hole is outstanding. A good drive is necessary in most holes in order to have a possibility of ending the hole with a satisfying score. The 13th and 18th have been known to be killers due to the lake hazards. In general it can be considered a course for players who know how to draw the ball.

A notable course that has been selected several times as the location for what is now known as the Algarve Open and previously named the Portuguese Open. As to be expected this course is designed for the long hitter, requiring the player to pick a selected route around the course in order to make a decent score. The 18 holes are both anti-clockwise loops, the first nine needing a draw on the ball, whilst, the back nine favours a drive that fades from each tee. A water hazard in the form of lakes are to be encountered on holes 3, 15 and 17. Experienced players find that the holes 8,10,15 and 18, are the most testing. Holes 2,3,5,12, 13 and 17, provides the player the best chance of making birdies

The latest course in the Almancil area has many lakes and obstacles. Laranjal Golf Courses narrow fairways and the well defended greens require good concentration and club accuracy to navigate the testing course laid down over a rolling and well defined topography. The Laranjal course has five par 5s, eight par 4s, five par 3s set amongst a mixture of pines, cork oaks and orange trees. To add to the challenge and vista there are 5 beautiful lakes.
